The Ocean's Shine

A man is out to sea
never to return
a woman sits alone
a candle left to burn

His ship has gone down
the letter did tell
news has just arrived
in yesterday's mail

No more happy reunions
no more sad goodbyes
just a woman left alone
with tears in her eyes

She stares at the flame
that beckons no one her heart has gone away
with the captain's son

Leaving the house
heading nowhere
looks to the sea
with it's shimmering glare

She walks to the shore
feels the sand on her feet
lays on the ground
to feel the ocean's steady beat

Crawls to the ocean
tears and water meet
love is now gone
soul has met defeat

Stands once again
walks to the sea
her heart is locked
she must find the key

Now she's in deep
so she swims on
what can she do
her only love's gone

Her body gets tired
she starts to go down
nothing to live for
she lets herself drown

Drifts to the bottom
of the brine
finds her loves hand
the ocean's shrine
