Wanting The World

Wanting to be self,
but being another.
Not knowing which is better,
or which is more acceptable.

Acceptable by whom,
friends or peers or media or family.
None really matter,
although they seem to.

Wanting to please everyone,
without knowing why.
I have no reason,
they've done little for me.

Yet I still try,
only harming myself.
Concentrating on them,
neglecting me.

Wanting to be happy,
and not succeeding.
Trying my hardest,
when I find the time.

There's not much time for that,
when everyone else is much worse.
So I push me aside,
and help them help themselves.

Wanting to know,
why so many are miserable.
In such a pretty place,
what causes it to be empty for so many.

For some it's society,
all the expectations and faults.
But for others like me,
it's from listening to life.

Wanting to understand,
why life's the way it is.
When innocents suffer,
although it doesn't need to be that way.

Not understanding why some are selfish,
people die over government quarrels.
When they're supposed to be protected,
yet aren't, because people lie.

Wanting to end the quarrels,
an impossibility.
Humans are stubburn, and not worth it,
if that's all, why do I still hope.

For a better future,
without hate and hunger.
Never will it happen,
all I see is disaster.

Wanting to see the positive,
but I see the worst.
I see a war, ending it all,
something so stupid, so very human.

The human nature is centered on self,
and rarely looks at consequences.
The selfishness is our downfall,
the fate of the conceited.

Wanting others to see,
how pointless it all is.
To be consumed with themselves,
and what will best suit them.

Show them the pain they cause,
for the people who suffer at their hands.
The hands of many, which need not be there,
the pain caused is pointless, and preventable.

Wanting humans to learn,
that there's no reason to hurt.
It is possible to understand how others feel,
open the eyes of the blind.

The problem is in the mind,
and the mind can be overcome.
See the changes that can happen,
and the results that will arise.

Wanting humans to grow up and look around.
