Diligent /Visionary/ Sentinel
Profile boss: Visionary

Editor's note: It's been one year since we first met Bill. Now married and working on a promotion, he's a very different man that he was a couple of years ago. Read his story and afterwards, meet his bride and find out where two Visionarys honeymoon in this continuing Ansir story.

Bill waits for the pay raise he knows is coming. A recent suggestion at his computer programming job in Central Illinois saved the company a lot of money, and it's just a matter of time before some of his innovative contributions to the corporation are returned to him. But he's not in a hurry. Bill, 43, is happy for the first time in his working life, and that's what matters most. Especially when self-fulfillment is found in the working realm, as for this Visionary worker.

Because Bill is a long way from where he thought he would be at this age, and while he's starting over, in a sense, he feels he's actually going somewhere this time.

Bill grew up with a love for cars and tinkering that moved him into the auto parts business as a young man. He thought he would be a natural in this retail field, so he worked hard for 14 years, and then bought his own store. Seven years later, stomach pains and nerves that were ready to snap pushed Bill to the brink. What was wrong? What had happened?

Bill couldn't deal with certain, rude customers, and handling complaints was a headache that dominated his life. "People didn't obey posted orders or rules," he said, "like the refund policy. People wanted refunds for used merchandise. They even wanted refunds for goods that didn't come from my store. They were demanding and they knew they were lying." The constant stress got to Bill. He was miserable, and, worse, he felt trapped.

A computer buff since an early age, Bill had taught himself programming concepts that others must go to school to acquire. He was an Internet fan and one day stumbled across the '3 Sides of You' test on the Ansir Web site. The test showed that Bill was fuctioning as the proverbial square peg in a round hole.

"The test and analysis said my profile wasn't a people-person, and that just set me free," he said. "It suggested retail was not for me, and that got me to thinking and gave me a path to get away from that and to do something more in-line with what I should be doing."

Bill sold his store. He applied for and landed a computer programming job with the government. He works with a small team and loves it. "We're all knowledgeable about the same thing," he said. "I feel very safe and comfortable. We're all great friends." He works a 4-day work week where he was working 6 days a week at his store. He says he likes the structure of what he does and enjoys the perks and benefits. "I'm genuinely happy for the first time in my life."

"I can't tell you how happy I am with the changes that I made in my life."

"I'd recommend the Ansir test to anyone, especially young people. If they have any questions at all about their career path, they should definitely take it. How much better and happier their life will be if they're headed down the right path from the beginning."

Like thousands of others, Bill is very happy he found the Ansir website. Now if his employer would just part with a little of that money he saved them.

To learn what's new in Bill's life, read his letter:

Dear Ansir,

We've been busy unpacking Melinda's things, as it all got moved over here just a couple days before we left on our honeymoon aboard the NCL cruise ship "Norwegian Wind". (At least we can see the floor here and there! LOL)

I've enclosed a picture of us at the border between Alaska and Canada in the White Pass up in the Yukon. This was taken on day four of our trip, while on a tour of Skagway, Alaska and Carcross, Canada.

Bill and Melinda on their honeymoon

Melinda is very close to me, Ansirwise. She's Diligent /Visionary /Kinsmen. Our life together, so far, is going great! We seem to compliment each other very well and haven't had any problems adjusting to life together, which is very good, considering we'd both been spending our lives alone up to this point. Melinda had been married before, but that was several years ago. We're having fun unpacking all of our things and finding out what new "toys" we both have to play with. Since we'd both had our own households, we do have a lot of duplicate items to deal with, tho.

On the work front, my place of business is in an uproar due to some extremely poor management. I'm in the process of moving into another sub-unit at work, and will be changing to days, instead of the evening shift I'm currently working. Melinda is happy with that, as we'll be able to spend more time together now. I'll be picking up some much needed computer operations experience, actually running and printing the programs, as opposed to the setting up of them, that I'm currently doing. I have made many changes to our operation, in our unit. Since I'm in a political arena, however, management takes care of their favorites and turns a deaf ear to the others, me being one of them. They've thanked me profusely for the ideas and suggestions, have greatly appreciated all the changes that I've implemented, applaud me for the big increase in accuracy of our work, but just seem not to be able to push that promotion thru for me, citing the "well, rules are rules...." although the rules seem to change daily on an "as needed" basis. So, I decided to move into the other unit to gain the operations experience I need, to obtain the promotion on my own, without their help — I'm almost there. In the meantime, all of my good ideas are going to sit on the back burner, and I'm going to do my job, and go home. Additionally, I've been accepted into another program at work, called "upward mobility" that will test my experience levels and provide the needed training to advance into a Programmer/Analyst position, a much higher paying position, than the one I have now. :) That will pay off for the effort spent, as they will seek the higher positions for me, and help me advance along that path.

I've had several good chats with some of the members and have really enjoyed the new website!

Take care, my friends,

Bill
